Our
Town
Maryborough is
located 2hrs North West of Melbourne CBD
in the centre of the Victorian
Goldfields. It is an historic gold
town with a population of 10 500. Tourists
can enjoy easy day trips to Ballarat,
Bendigo, Castlemaine, Maldon, Daylesford
and Hepburn Springs, and the Pyrenees
Wineries or the Grampians. The area
has many interesting, historical
attractions including the restored
Railway Station now containing a unique
antique museum and shop.
Maryborough is an excellent base from
which to investigate Victoria's golden
history. The Park is located in
Princes Park on Lake Victoria a short
walk to the main shopping centre.

| You can still
find"GOLD, GOLD,
GOLD!!!" |
The Golden Way
|
| Maryborough is right in
the middle of Victoria's Goldfields and
many detector operators still find
nuggets within 10 km of the town. This
area is renowned beyond Australia for detector operators to find Gold
without great expense and inconvenience.
It is favoured by serious operators
together with remote areas in Western
Australia and Queensland. Local guides
are available to familiarize you with the
area or to experience the hobby. A major
Detector manufacturer is to set up its
factory in the town together with a Gold
Expo and Museum. |
 |
 |
Maryborough is
one of the great Gold history cities in
Australia and the past wealth generated
can still be seen in the City's Historic
Buildings. During the Golden years it is
said that 90% of the population of
Australia lived within 50km of
Maryborough. The second most popular
reason for people to visit the area is to
research Family History and the local
Historical Society can be very helpful.

About
the Park
The Park is family owned and run and we strive to
provide excellent quality, friendly
service and value.
The Park is a lovely green oasis with
extensive lawn areas and many shady
trees. It is very popular with
retired travellers and many take a well
earned break from their wanderings.
It has a large Campers Lounge which makes
it popular with caravan and campervan
clubs. As the area is well suited
for cycling there are frequently cycling
groups visiting and touring the nearby
tourist attractions. The Caravan
Park is located within Princes Park
alongside Lake Victoria, a Hockey Field
and an Adventure Playground for children.
Also in Princes Park are two Football
grounds, the Swimming pool, and the
Tennis courts. It is only a 5 minute walk
around the Lake to the Shopping centre.
Five minutes in the other direction is
the excellent Golf course.
Friendly Dogs are permitted and welcome
at the Manager's discretion.

events annually some are listed below.
The
2006 RACV
Energy Breakthrough
The Breakthrough is a major curriculum
item for schools who compete in various
categories with a theme of alternative energy.
The highlight is a 24 hour race of pedal or
alternative powered vehicles. The Breakthrough is
now in its 14th year and Maryborough accommodates
about 10,000 children and adults over 4 days in
November each year. For information on

The Maryborough
Highland Games - January 1st 2007
These games are now in their
146th year
and are the oldest sporting event in Australia.
They are the largest Scottish Gathering in
Australia and incorporate the Maryborough Gift.
They are held on New Years day. Highlights of
the Day are the Maryborough Gift, the Scottish
dancing and the components of the Scottish sports
- Caber tossing and Stone lifting. The finale of
the games is the "Girl on the Drum"
when all the dancing girls dance with a Girl
lifted high onto a bass drum . Watching the
smiles on these children's faces make it a
wonderful way to start a new year. |
Vintage Motorbike Rally-March long weekend
The Vintage motor club of Victoria have
their annual rally in Maryborough each year and
have done so for the past 26 years. Outstanding
bikes of past generations are interesting to
watch and the enthusiasts enjoy exchanging their
experiences and knowledge of their hobby. |
|
The
Christian School Sports
The Vintage motorbikes are followed immediately
by the influx of some 800 children over two days
to participate in their Athletics and Swimming
carnival. Again the children are to be commended
on their behaviour. Management enjoys this time
hosting so many young people enjoying themselves. |

Information for
the 2006 RACV Energy Breakthrough
The 2006 RACV Energy
Breakthrough will be held on November 23 - 26.
The Maryborough Caravan Park looks after Primary School
camping, all arrangements for schools in the Park
are to be made through the school co-ordinator.
This includes Cabin accommodation. Arrangements
will be as similar as possible to 2004/5 and
priority for camping in the Caravan Park will go
to schools that have stayed here before. Schools
that cannot be fitted into the Park will be accommodated elsewhere probably on the main oval
or hockey field which is organised by our local council.
Safety and security is vastly
improved by having cars parked by the railway line at rear of
caravan park. This has been so successful in past years that in
200 that rule
will be more strictly enforced. 15
minutes will be allowed for offloading. Only
residents may move in the Park after dark
(excepting emergencies). A minimum stay of three
nights will be accepted for Cabins.
School co-ordinators should contact the caravan park to confirm
bookings and all arrangements during the week leading up to the
9th of November which is our closing date.
School co-ordinators should phone the Caravan Park on 03
5460 4848 for any enquiries.
The RACV Breakthrough site at
RACVBreakthrough.com.au gives more
information.
